My Talented Roommate

My Talented Roommate

This week’s comic came pretty close to being filler. At the last minute I had this random idea and decided to go for it. I guess it beats having a panel with Brandon telling you how busy he is.

So it’s been a few weeks since I added subtle noses to the characters, and it’s already a thing were the older comics without just don’t look quite right to me anymore. Weird, huh?

So subtle, I had to zoom in and squint to see what you were talking about.

I must admit, there was some sarcasm involved when I wrote that. It has to do with how the original white sclera eyes (not the ancient black dot eyes) really do look weird to me because they were kind of small and bug-like. The truth is, adding that subtle nose is more work than you would expect without a noticeable payoff.

Other things that actually look weird to me now: When I first added articulated hands, the forearms were too long. It is very, very weird looking to me now. It’s like a bug-eyed Slenderman or something.

The breasts on the females used to look like gumdrops stuck to their chests. When I look back at that, I just shake my head and say, “What was I thinking?!”

But the “subtle nose” is just that. Subtle. I rarely frame the characters in a way in which you can actually see the effect, so should I forget to do it in the future, I seriously doubt if anyone will even notice.
